Welcome. My name is Jessie. I lived in New York City as a women’s magazine editor for 13 years before moving to the rural south four years ago, a decision spurred by true love. As adventurous as the transition from city to country has been, it’s also been a rocky one, with many “What was I thinking??” moments along the way. I have traded Whole Foods for Walmart. I now sew more clothes than I buy. I have become weirdly proficient at gardening, cooking, canning and eating copious amounts of venison jerky (that I dehydrate myself, naturally). I heat my house with wood and nearly killed myself with a hydraulic nail gun. In short, I have become a homesteader. I don’t know where this journey is taking me, but I really hope I don’t end up looking like this woman here.
These are my stories.
